News from the Executive Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents, Teachers and Staff,

On Friday we enjoyed the annual general meeting of the Parent Support Group (PSG). Our PSG work tirelessly to support the school and as mentioned in the meeting there are a whole range of different ways that parents can become involved. You can join the Executive, or volunteer to take part in focus groups for the development of documents such as the school strategic plan, you can represent us when we have visiting committees for agencies like WASC or you can help with the organisation of events such as the Bazaar, Family Day and Sembako Murah. We pride ourselves on close, open, and transparent relationships and Friday’s meeting reinforced just how positive relationships are.

Following on from this, last Saturday was an extremely eventful day. We had an Open Day where prospective parents and students were given a tour of the school and the opportunity to ask questions to teachers and senior staff. My thanks go to the students from StuCo and OSIS who volunteered to conduct tours and also did so in such a composed and confident manner.  They were the greatest advertisement for the school. My thanks also go to our MarComm team who organised this wonderful event.

Whilst this Open Day was proceeding, we had many of our High School teachers in the school testing the 50 plus students who have applied for admission to the High School next year. This was the first of many such weekend tests as there are so many applications. It’s amazing, and we’re grateful to the staff that give up their own time to support the school. If you know anyone who is thinking of applying for the next academic year, I suggest they do so quickly as we have limited places available.

While this entrance testing was taking place, we also had the ICAS testing in the High School. This is another opportunity for our students to demonstrate their academic ability in science, mathematics, English and digital technologies.

Later in the day, large numbers of students and staff enjoyed going to the DBL Arena where our senior boys’ team, fresh off their win in the Super Sixteen, played their Big Eight playoff game. This is the furthest a Sekolah Ciputra team has gone in the competition since 2013 and since our senior girls won the competition in 2007. Sadly, we fell behind with 9 seconds left on the clock and were not able to pull off the win. The team and their supporters can take a lot of heart from the way they played and conducted themselves.

Congratulations to all the students and staff (and especially the PE staff) on a very successful PYP Athletics Day. It was great to see our students so actively engaged.

Next week sees the Grade 8 National Assessments as well as a USA mini university fair featuring a number of leading US universities. This will help seniors in their university application process.

Finally, the school will be offering a number of scholarships for the next three years for current Grade 6 and Grade 9 students. These scholarships will be announced on the 28th October. Our MarComm team will be sending the details out to our community soon. It is a very competitive and challenging process but also a very beneficial one which I encourage you to consider.

Have a great week!
