World Recognition of the Rector of UNIDA Gontor at the IUC Forum in Ankara

Ankara – Prof. Dr. Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi, M.A.Ed., M.Phil., Rector of Universitas Darussalam Gontor, was entrusted with being the Chair of the Commission in the International Universities Council (IUC) Forum, which was held at Gazi Üniversitesi, Ankara, Turkiye on September 30th. This forum raised the theme “Global Migration and Refugee Problem” which was attended by dozens of universities from the Balkans, Asia and Africa.

Universitas Darussalam Gontor (UNIDA Gontor) continues to strive to expand its network with various policy makers in order to develop scientific insights and valuable experiences at the national and international levels. This effort, in the dynamics of the journey, is able to increase the appreciation of outsiders for the existence and performance that has been carried out. On September, Universitas Darussalam Gontor and Vice Rector III, for Cooperation, Research, Community Service and Alumni received an honorary invitation from the International Universities Council (IUC) Forum in Ankara, Turkiye.

The IUC Forum has a mission to establish cooperation between universities in Asia, Africa and the Balkan Countries. One of the important programs in this year’s meeting is the holding of an international event on: “Global Migration and Refugee Problems”. The event, which was attended by Rector’s and University Leadership representatives from a number of countries, was organized by Gazi Üniversitesi, Turkiye. This prestigious program took place at the Mimar Kemaleddin Rectorate Hall, Gazi Üniversitesi, in the country’s capital, Ankara, Friday afternoon (30/9).

IUC workshops

The workshop started with singing the Turkiye national anthem, İstiklal Marşı (Independence March). Secretary General of the IUC, Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat provided information about the development of this international organization which has dozens of members from a number of continents. Rector of Gazi Üniversitesi, Prof. Dr. Musa Yildiz, said, “Today is an important day for us, Gazi Üniversitesi. I would like to state that we are happy to welcome the distinguished guests who are present at Gazi Üniversitesi. I hope that this activity will result in a mutual agreement that will benefit our country and the world.”

The main theme of the workshop is taken from global problems that are often faced by member countries, especially Turkiye. Orhan Hikmet Azizoğlu (Founder Chairman of IUC) said, “We are experiencing very intense migration and refugee problems, especially in the geographical area where Turkiye located. Geography is destiny and we live together. We need to focus on solving this problem together.” After the opening remarks, the main event began at the Senate Building in several predetermined discussion groups.

Prof. Dr. K.H. Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi, M.A.Ed., M.Phil., Rector of Universitas Darussalam Gontor, was entrusted with being the chairman of the commission at the international level assembly. One of the essence of the commission assembly he leads is that Islamic countries must accept and treat refugees properly. This is in line with the practice of the word of Allah SWT in the Quran Surah At-Taubah : 6, ‘And if among the polytheists there is someone who asks you for protection, then protect him so that he can hear the word of Allah SWT, then take him to a safe place for him. (Thus) it is because they are a people who do not know.’

The event ended with the reading of the collective agreement in a final declaration in the Mimar Kemaleddin Hall, Gazi Üniversitesi. The Declaration affirms that the universities that are part of this organization, the International Universities Council, can contribute actively and effectively in solving global migration and refugee problems. Taking a photo with all the delegates in front of the Rector’s Main Building, Gazi Üniversitesi closed the entire event. [Zharifah A./Ed: Shaheeda Karabuk/Ed: Muhamad Fikrul Umam]
