Dr. Priyotomo, S.Sos., M.M. (Lecturer at the Department of Business Administration FISIP UNDIP) Discussed Digital Transformation Research in Family Support Career Achievement in VUCA Situations

“Digitalization has become a separate challenge for Human Resource Management or HRM in formulating the degree of employee involvement, productivity and innovation. Adoption of new technology does not only specifically affect how an employee must act psychologically in conditions of uncertainty and ambiguity of the role (Volatility, Uncertainly, Complexity, Ambiguity/VUCA), but this condition will definitely also lead to uncertainty in career development. Psychologically, achieving a career with family support plays an important role in selecting and developing an individual’s career amidst the challenges of digitalization in the world of work,” explained Dr. Priyotomo, S.Sos., M.M., Lecturer at the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University.

He further said, the adoption of new technology enables the HRM function within the organization to develop effective communication to ensure employee readiness. In carrying out its strategic role, this process should focus on enhancing specific knowledge and skills, as well as the adaptability of an employee so that they can be transferred to other fields or divisions easily. It will ultimately give them a competitive advantage and make them more resilient to change.

“To realize all the opportunities offered by digital transformation, organizations need to ensure the development of knowledge, skills and capabilities of the workforce to maintain the required level of organizational competitiveness and performance. The process of improving knowledge and skills will produce a workforce that can adapt to new, rapidly changing conditions and requirements brought about by the application of digital technology,” explained Dr. Priyotomo, S.Sos., M.M..

The findings from his research indicate that family support plays an important role in career development during the VUCA period as a result of the application of digital technology and AI. The findings show that compensation and benefits, job characteristics, verbal persuasion, psychological feedback, fairness and relationships are important antecedents of family support in employee career development during the VUCA period. Theoretically these findings confirm the importance of social support such as family in developing careers in VUCA situations which have not been investigated empirically in many previous studies.
