University of Darussalam Gontor and Muslim College London Renew MoU for Academic Collaboration

London, 9 March 2023 – The University of Darussalam Gontor (UNIDA Gontor) and the Muslim College London have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen their academic collaboration and research partnership. This renewal comes after a previously signed MoU in 2017.

The signing ceremony was held at the Muslim College London and was attended by a delegation from UNIDA Gontor, including the Rector of UNIDA Gontor, Prof Dr KH Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi, Mrs Emira Iffat (wife of Prof Dr KH Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi), Dr Khoirul Umam (Vice Rector for research and networking), and Dr KH Hadiyanto Arief (President of Darunnajah University) and several lecturers of UNIDA Gontor who are pursuing PhDs in the UK, namely Eko Nur Cahyo, Royyan Ramdhani Djayusman, and Muchammad Taufiq Affandi.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Principal of Muslim College London, Dr Mosa Alblezi, Senior Lecturer in Modern Muslim Theology, Dr Ibrahim Darwis, and Executive Secretary of Muslim Council Shariah Council UK, Shaykh Maruf Ahmed.

During the ceremony, both institutions agreed to work together to organize joint workshops, seminars, academic meetings, and training programs. They will also collaborate on a joint education program, offering online short courses on Arabic language teaching and Islamic Studies, and conducting collaborative research on Muslim in Britain in the fields of Islamic Law, Arabic Language, Aqeedah, and Islamic Economics. The partnership also includes engagement between each party to provide an external examiner for master’s or PhD thesis exams.

As part of the collaboration, the two institutions will organize a joint workshop for students of the University of Darussalam Gontor at the Muslim College London to learn Islamic studies, Arabic language, and the interaction between Islam and the West. UNIDA Gontor also sees the opportunity to send its lecturers pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree to the Muslim College London.

This renewal of the MoU between UNIDA Gontor and the Muslim College London is expected to pave the way for further academic collaborations, research, and knowledge sharing between the two institutions. (Eko Nur Cahyo, Royyan Ramdhani Djayusman, Muchammad Taufiq Affandi)
