UNIDA Gontor at Newcastle: transforming life through mawarith

NEWCASTLE – Understanding mawarith will change the way we see life and the world. That was the main message from Al-Ustadz Dr Khoirul Umam, M.Ec. to the member of Al-Imanu Newcastle, Sunday, 12 March 2023.

“Understanding that we will pass our wealth to the next generation reminds us that our ownership of our wealth is temporary,” said Dr Umam, the vice Rector of UNIDA Gontor for research and networking.

“But there are ways to fully own that wealth,” he added, “and charity is one of those ways”

He then quoted the following hadith:
وعن عائشة رضي الله عنها أنهم ذبحوا شاة، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏:‏ ‏ “‏ما بقى منها‏؟‏‏”‏ قالت‏:‏ ما بقى منها إلا كتفها، قال‏:‏ “بقى كلها غير كتفها” ‏(‏‏(‏رواه الترمذى وقال‏:‏ حديث صحيح‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏
‘Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had slaughtered a sheep and distributed major portions of its meat. Then he (ﷺ) asked, “Is there anything left?” She replied, “Nothing, except the shoulder.” Thereupon he said, “All of it is left except its shoulder.” [At-Tirmidhi, who classified it as Hadith Sahih].

He then stressed that awareness of mawarith leads us to a constant reminder that we need to prepare our children to be ‘waladun shalih’, pious children. “Because it is useless to leave abundant wealth to our children when they are not well educated to be a pious Muslim.”

The program was jointly organized by Al-Imanu Newcastle and the University of Darussalam Gontor as part of its international community service program. (Eko Nur Cahyo, Royyan Ramdhani Djayusman, Muchammad Taufiq Affandi)
