POMNAS 2023 will increase the South Kalimantan tourism sector

Banjarmasin, Chancellor of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri ensured that the 18th National Student Sports Week (Pomnas) in November 2023 could boost the host tourism sector, South Kalimantan (Kalsel). “The presence of 10,000 students from all provinces in Indonesia will certainly contribute to the economy of South Kalimantan, especially the tourism sector,” said Alim in Banjarmasin, Sunday.

Therefore, Alim hopes that the local government’s active role will help promote tourist attractions that can be visited by POMNAS contingents later during or after the end of matches in each sport. Especially in areas that are relatively close to the location of the matches, namely the City of Banjarmasin and the City of Banjarbaru or the areas of Banjar Regency and Tanah Laut Regency to Barito Kuala Regency. Alim said several leading tourist objects in South Kalimantan that could be visited include the proboscis monkey mascot and riverside tours in Banjarmasin, Lok Baintan Floating Market and Tahura Sultan Adam and Bukit Batu Riam Kanan Reservoir in Banjar Regency to Bakut Island and Curiak Island in Barito Kuala Regency. proboscis monkey conservation.

In addition to tourism, the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector, especially sales centers for souvenirs and goods typical of South Kalimantan, according to Alim, are also certainly much sought after by the POMNAS contingent. For example, the sasirangan cloth, a traditional cloth originating from South Kalimantan, has been designated by the Ministry of Education and Culture as one of 33 traditional fabrics of intangible cultural heritage in Indonesia. “In Banjarmasin there is Kampung Sasirangan which can be visited for shopping or other locations,” he said. This year’s POMNAS contested 16 sports, namely athletics, rock climbing, swimming, karate, wrestling, taekwondo, tennis, kempo, chess, pencak silat, bridge, takraw, futsal, badminton, basketball and sand volleyball .
