UNIDA Gontor and AIFC Kazakhstan on Climate Change and Energy: New Impulses During In-depth Discussion

A band of researchers of UNIDA Gontor led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akhmad Affandi Mahfudz, CPIF embarks on potent ties through in-depth discussion on Climate Change and Energy amid the visit to AIFC ( Astana International Financial Centre) in Astana Kazakhstan on Thursday, 29 February 2024. In this regard, a center under AIFC that plays a role in developing green financial policies and green financing instruments is AIFC Green Finance Center (GFC). GFC is the only institution in Central Asia accredited by the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA) and the Climate Bonds Initiative.

During the visit, the UNIDA Gontor delegation discussed with Aigul Kussaliyeva (Director of Sustainable Development and Secretariat of Green Investment Principles for BRI in Central Asia), and Medina Tukulova (Head of Islamic Finance of AIFC). Meanwhile, members of the delegation from UNIDA Gontor included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Setiawan bin Lahuri, M.A., Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khoirul Umam, M.Ec., Assoc. Prof. Imam Kamaluddin, M.Hum., and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syamsuri, and M.Sh..

The discussion began with an explanation regarding the research carried out by the UNIDA Gontor lecturer team together with the Alfarabi National University lecturer team. Next, in-depth discussions reveal the practices, obstacles and opportunities for green economic development in Kazakhstan. More specifically, the discussion also revealed the opportunities for Green Sukuk in Kazakhstan.
