The University of Darussalam Gontor was honored to play a role as a co-organizer at the 11th ASEAN Universities International Conference on Islamic Finance (AICIF 2023). This conference is held by Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) at Auditorium Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Brunei Darussalam on 5-6 December 2023 in collaboration with International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Mindanao State University (Philippines), Universitas Islam Sultan Agung (UNISSULA), Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga.

8 papers from UNIDA Gontor have been accepted for participation in this conference. Apart from that, UNIDA Gontor has sent a delegation of three for this event which was led by Dr. Khoirul Umam, M.Ec. (Vice-Rector for Research and Networking) along with Assoc. Prof. Imam Kamaluddin (Dean of the Faculty of Shariah) and Dr. Hartomi Maulana (Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management) as delegate members.

In this event, Dr. Khoirul Umam acted as a panelist speaker at the 11th AICIF Forum and highlighted the importance of the Islamic worldview while talking about Islamic finance. Dr Umam asserted that profit and loss sharing with equal economic distribution should be comprehensively considered to enhance the goal of Islamic finance. Other than that, the preservation of the environment (hifdzul bi’ah) as introduced by a contemporary Islamic scholar, Syeikh Jamaluddin Athiyah supposed to be echoed in the current discussion of Islamic finance, he added.

AICIF this year takes main theme about the role of Islamic finance towards a regenerative and sustainable economy. Finally, the Next AICIF in 2024 is decided will be hosted by Mindanao State University, in the Philippines.
