ITS Campus, ITS News – Strengthening its determination in the scientific field, the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) succeeded in occupying the second highest position in universities with proposals that received funding in the 2024 Student Creativity Program (PKM). A program organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) succeeded in passing 147 proposals from ITS.

Head of the Talent Development Section of the ITS Directorate of Student Affairs (Ditmawa), Hakun Wirawasista Aparamarta ST MMT PhD, revealed that the total funds received by 147 ITS teams from the PKM management body at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) amounted to IDR 1.17 billion. “This is an improvement, considering that last year ITS was still in third place,” he said proudly.

The funded proposals come from eight PKM fields, namely 42 PKM Entrepreneurship proposals (PKM-K), 21 PKM Karsa Cipta (PKM-KC) proposals, 8 PKM Innovative Work proposals (PKM-KI), 10 PKM Applications of Science and Technology (PKM) proposals (PI), 7 Community Service PKM proposals (PKM-PM), 37 Exact Research PKM proposals (PKM-RE), 11 Social Humanities Research PKM proposals (PKM-RSH), and 11 Constructive Ideas Video PKM proposals (PKM-VGK).

Furthermore, the man from Surabaya explained that there was a reduction in the quota for submitting proposals to the Learning and Student Affairs Information System (Simbelmawa) for the 2024 PKM League. Occupying cluster I of tertiary institutions, the proposals that ITS can upload on the Simbelmawa page are 400, 100 less than the quota compared to last year. “This limitation is carried out to equalize research funding throughout Indonesia,” explained Hakun.

Nevertheless, the ITS Chemical Engineering Department lecturer is of the opinion that this quota limitation does not reduce students’ enthusiasm for honing their abilities in initiating innovation. Even though it has decreased statistically, the percentage of PKM funding passed has increased to 37 percent of the total proposals submitted. This shows an increase in the quality of student proposals and ideas.

Increasing the productivity of students who take part in this event cannot be separated from support from various parties. Ditmawa, together with the ITS PKM Task Force, continues to strive to provide facilities to support student research while also paying attention to the readiness of the Reasoning lecturers who will oversee the process. Apart from that, there is also the readiness of the Ten November Knights (KSN) and the Guard Team from each Departmental Student Association (HMD), who have taken part in the preparations for the 2024 ITS PKM League.

After receiving funding, each team will execute the ideas contained in the proposal, assisted by a supervisor. Various efforts, such as communal guidance (bikom) and PKM camps, are provided to monitor and evaluate student research progress. Hakun and the team are trying to maximize the funded proposals so that they can be included in the upcoming 37th National Student Science Week (Pimnas).

Considering the large scale of this event, Hakun emphasized that support from ITS will not stop flowing. The hope is that this event can foster students’ competitive spirit and creativity so that the knowledge they learn can be useful for society. “From students to the alma mater, we are optimistic that we can bring back the Pimnas overall champion title for ITS,” stressed Hakun.
