Diponegoro University (UNDIP) is committed to continually enhancing the competency of its staff in the UNDIP campus environment with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) certification. The training will equip them with the skills needed to implement Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). Therefore, the Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment Unit (UPT K3L) collaborated with the Central Java Provincial Manpower and Transmigration Office, Semarang City Fire Department, and Semarang City PMI to hold a Refreshment Training for OSH Certification attended by representatives from each work unit within UNDIP. A total of 69 people participated in this event, which was held on Tuesday, June 25, at the Prof. Soedarto S.H. Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus.

The refreshment training is part of the training program for employees who already have competent scores to update their skills, knowledge, and performance by facilitating OSH certification and empowering existing employees to implement an OSH culture. The implementation of the OSH culture at UNDIP can be planned, systematic, and targeted.

In his speech, UNDIP Vice Rector for Resources, Dr. Warsito Kawedar, S.E., M.Si., Akt., expressed that this OSH Certification Refreshment Training activity is expected to encourage participants to spread the OSH culture in their respective units daily and remain enthusiastic about working for UNDIP.

Bina Kurniawan, S.KM., M.Kes., the Head of UNDIP’s Healthy Campus Team, mentioned in his speech that this activity aims to gather and provide the idea of refreshment. Additionally, after this event, representatives from each work unit within UNDIP can work according to their competencies.

“For the UNDIP campus to be safe, healthy, and productive in its activities for all campus residents (students, guests, and employees). Everyone should receive guaranteed services and reduce harmful incidents. At the end of the event, there will be guidance and confirmation of emergency response,” explained Bina.

“In the future, there will also be training on electrical OSH, elevators, generators, labs, etc. The hope is that UNDIP will achieve zero accidents, making UNDIP a comfortable place to work, study, research, and serve,” said Bina while opening the Refreshment Training event.

Meanwhile, Nashrudin Anwar, S.T., representing the Central Java Provincial Manpower and Transmigration Office, mentioned in his speech that the first aspect related to workplace accidents can take the form of work accidents, fires, explosions, and occupational diseases. According to data, until June this year, Central Java has recorded 22,000 workplace accidents, ranging from small and micro to large companies and even public workplaces such as campuses and national vital objects. Therefore, the presence of OSH personnel is significant.

“Secondly, today’s session ensures that the role of fire officers functions well; fire officers must master all areas of each faculty. We also need to map and ensure that hydrants, fire extinguishers, and alarm detectors function properly,” he added.

“For the third aspect, first aid officers must always be present in every faculty, and there must be personnel in charge of first aid facilities. I think the provision of this procedure is essential; it is actually a functional position. OSH is a necessity. We need to be safe and healthy so that you can perform your ‘additional’ duties well. Let us maximize our efforts to achieve a zero-accident campus,” said Nashrudin.

This Refreshment Training was divided into three training classes. The first class had 19 enthusiastic participants following the guidance from the Central Java Provincial Manpower and Transmigration Office, providing general OSH Expert (AK3U) training, including workplace inspection methods, workplace inspection report preparation, independent workplace inspection (visual media visualization in the workplace), and practical independent workplace inspection.

The second class, with 30 participants, received training from the Semarang City Fire Department, including emergency mapping, emergency facilities needs mapping, emergency facilities maintenance, and practical field guidance on using hydrants.

The third class, with 19 participants, received training from Semarang City PMI. The class covered guidelines for providing first aid facilities, a basic understanding of first aid (P3K), and reporting first aid activities in their respective work units. It was followed by practical sessions on first aid for asthma, seizures, shortness of breath, fainting, sprains, choking, and victim evacuation procedures.

At the end of the Refreshment Training for OSH Certification, there was an evaluation by each speaker, followed by the induction and confirmation of the UNDIP emergency response team by the Vice Rector for Resources and the Head of the Healthy Campus Team, along with a group photo session.
