Joining this volunteer charity event was an impromptu idea. I signed up without thinking much because it’s been a long while since I joined this kind of event that focuses on helping people who are in need. Thus, I was pretty excited to make use of my own strength to help people. This event was initiated by OSIS, STUCO and the PSG. I was a representative from High School students. On 7th December, we started packing the hampers. I contributed in packing the hampers for a while, then moved on to rechecking the goods inside, tying up the bag and moving them to the desired place. It was pretty tiring but I’m glad that we were all able to work together and complete packing about 450 bags. Then on December 9th, we (grade 11s) went to distribute the hampers to Pemulung in Lakarsantri & Liponsos Babat Jerawat. Sekolah Ciputra cooperates with a local organization called Garda Pangan for this distribution. We met the people and had a little conversation with them, getting to know their life and condition. It was pretty sad to know that there are people who are unaccepted in their community for having a skin disease (explained in our second destination– Liponsos Babat Jerawat). They live in a residence provided by Surabaya Social Service, where it provides shelter, foods, treatments and medications. Overall, this volunteer event has brought me such a great experience I seldom face daily. It was amazing being able to help others in a good way and I do wish to do more of these in the future.
